Questions

Boiler questions

How long does a combi swap take?

Most like-for-like combi swaps take one day, with a choice of a 5-year or 10-year warranty. Changing from a system or regular boiler to a combi, or moving the boiler, usually takes two to three days.

Should I repair or replace my boiler?

If your boiler is under about 10 years old and the repair is a small fraction of a new boiler, repairing usually makes sense. If it's 12 to 15 years old or more, keeps breaking down, or parts are hard to get, replacing is often better value. I'll diagnose the fault first and give you a straight answer with both prices.

Is my boiler covered by warranty?

Most new boilers come with a manufacturer's warranty of 5 to 12 years, as long as the boiler was registered and has been serviced every year. Check this before paying for a repair, because the manufacturer may fix it free. Every boiler I fit is registered for you, and an annual service keeps the warranty valid.

What does my boiler's fault code mean?

The most common codes on the main makes are: Worcester Bosch EA (no flame detected), Vaillant F28 (failed to light) and F22 (low water pressure), Baxi E133 (gas supply or ignition fault) and E119 (low water pressure), and Ideal L2 (failed to light) and F1 (low water pressure). Check other gas appliances work, your gas meter has credit, and the pressure gauge reads 1 to 1.5 bar, then press reset once. If the code comes back, call me. Never take the boiler casing off yourself.
